To avoid tarnishing silver, it’s important to keep the pieces away from sulfur and chlorine. This can be done by storing silver in Pacific Cloth, or by using a homemade anti-tarnish cloth.

Always polish with the cloth before putting it away to maintain a fresh shine. Never wash it as this will destroy the polishing agents that are woven into the fabric.
Hagerty Two-Ply 12′′x15′′ Silver Polishing Cloth

This silver polishing cloth from Hagerty is a good choice for keeping your sterling, silver plate, or gold-plate jewelry shiny and tarnish-free. It contains R-22, Hagerty’s world-famous exclusive tarnish preventative ingredient that locks out tarnish 10 times longer.

This polishing cloth is easy to use and works well with all types of jewelry. It removes tarnish, fingerprints, and body oils without scratching the surface of your jewelry. The inner solution in the white cloth works to remove tarnish and the outer cloth buffs it to a shine.

The outer cloth is made from microfiber that is soft and won’t scratch the surface of your jewelry. The cloth can also be used to clean other metals, including copper and brass. If the cloth gets black, replace it with a new one right away. If you have trouble getting the silver tarnish off of your jewelry, try using isopropyl rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth to dissolve the tarnish and make it easier to remove.
Silverstall Anti-Tarnishing Polishing Cloth

This anti-tarnish silver polishing cloth is perfect for removing tarnish and applying a protective coating to ensure luster and radiance. Made of pure cotton, it is impregnated with a special silver cleaner and anti-tarnish agents. It can be used again and again, even after it begins to darken – just don’t wash it as that will remove the special cleaning agents.

Pacific Silvercloth is a brown cotton flannel fabric embedded with fine silver particles that absorb tarnishing gasses like hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide in the air. It also prevents oxidation and prevents scratches on silver items. It can be used to line drawers, cabinets, pouches and bags designed to store silver flatware, holloware, jewelry or other metal items susceptible to tarnishing. Many of our customers use Pacific Silvercloth to line zippered bags or flatware rolls to keep their silver tarnish-free. The liners are reusable and will last for generations, unlike 3M anti-tarnish strips that need to be replaced in about six months.
Hagerty Single-Ply Silver Polishing Cloth

The impregnated cloth restores the shine to silver and silver-plated metal items. The inner white cloth is treated with R-22 tarnish preventative and the outer blue cloth polishes silver items to achieve a shiny finish. The cloth is reusable, but it should be replaced as soon as it becomes black.

This silver polish and cleaner can also be used on gold, copper, brass, and aluminum. It removes tarnish and adds a layer of protection to silver, according to the manufacturer.

The product is available as a foam, cream, or liquid and can be poured over silver items to clean them. Gazzo recommends using a soft brush to get into hard-to-reach areas and rinsing the silver with cool water after cleaning. It also helps to store silver items in airtight containers to slow down tarnishing. It’s also important to avoid contact with sulfur and chlorine, which can accelerate oxidation. To keep your silver shining, check it occasionally and wipe it with a polishing cloth to remove any tarnish build-up.
Silverstall Double-Ply Silver Polishing Cloth

Silverstall double-ply polishing cloths are ideal for sterling silver and silver plate jewellery. They contain no abrasive substances and are safe for use on all precious metals. Use the yellow side of the cloth to clean and the black side to buff and shine. The interior layer is treated for cleaning and the outer fabric is specially made to resist tarnishing and fingerprints.

These large 12′′x15′′ cloths are impregnated with Hagerty’s world famous R-22 tarnish preventative, locking out tarnish 10 times longer than conventional products. The inner cotton flannel cloth thoroughly cleans jewellery and silverplate with special anti-tarnishing agents. The soft untreated outer fabric helps resist fingerprints and body oils.
